James Cobbold has been chasing sound for as long as he can remember, from thumping away at the piano as a toddler to finding his way into recording studios as a teenager. What started as a fascination with music soon became a full-blown obsession with sound, eventually leading him to London and into the world of sound design.

Since then, it’s been a fast-moving ride through studios, sessions, campaigns, and creative collaborations, learning from some of the best in the business and picking up a few awards along the way. With a background rooted in music and recording, James brings a sharp ear, technical instinct, and a storyteller’s feel to everything he touches.

A certified petrol-head, James has a particular love for automotive sound ,  the detail, the power, the texture, the emotion of machines in motion. But his ears don’t stop there. Whether it’s crafting bold sonic identities, shaping immersive soundscapes, or finding the subtle detail that makes a piece come alive, James can turn his hand (and ear)  to just about anything.

At Covert, James brings together sound design, recording, editing, mixing, and a deep musical sensibility to create work that feels polished, purposeful, and full of character.
